Phase One of the Bathroom in Bolton

First of all, the bathroom was emptied of all personal possessions before the bathroom installation. The current suite is removed, i.e. the shower tray & enclosure, bath & bath screen, basin, shower, toilet, etc. and put in a skip.

All waste pipes are discarded as the new ones were provided as part of the installation – this warrants the new pipework will be bright and free of debris such as soap and hair. All electrical sockets are disconnected were suitable and capped off, e.g. the previous electric shower in this example.

Tile removal

The tiles were then extracted from the walls, and the damage to the walls under the tiles was evaluated – the current tiles were fitted onto walls that had previously been rendered and plastered. This suggested that it no longer adheres adequately to the brick wall behind, and had to be eliminated in sequence for the next phase of the work to begin.

This step involves running all of the wires that will power the details that were to be involved in the new bathroom in Bolton installation:

Electrical cables were run, and holes are drilled in the ceiling to fit new ceiling spotlights. Electrical wires are also run to the location wanted for a new shaver socket, and a back box is followed into the wall in preparation.

Phase two of the Bathroom in Bolton

Wall formation

Once the walls were taken ‘back to brick’ and 1st fix electrics had been carried out, they were then re-boarded with water-resistant plasterboard utilising the ‘dot ‘n’ dab’ method. This method is the quickest, cheapest and easiest way to get perfectly level, square, plumb walls when you are re-boarding a room from ‘back to brick. At this phase, channels are chased out in the blockwork to run the cold & hot pipes to the shower, and in the plasterboard to cover pipework to the modern towel radiator. This phase involved laying new supply pipework to (and waste pipework from) the planned position of the new bathroom suite items. Supply pipework provides hot and cold water to the bath tap, shower basin and (cold water only) to the toilet. Supply pipework serving the bath filler and shower was then run above the floorboards beneath the bath, which makes future access easier should maintenance be needed.

Baths and shower trays are fixed at 1st fix stage as they want to be fitted before the start of Tiling. This is necessary to get appropriate watertight seals. Addition to this stage, the central heating pipework also needed to be relocated to adapt to the new position of the new towel radiator. All pipework that has been routed into the wall was then secured in place with clips and then a sand & cement mix or a drywall mix, guaranteeing that they are first covered in an impermeable tape to preserve the copper from chemical attack.

Phase three of the Bathroom in Bolton

Following, we planned out the tile layout to guarantee that the finished pattern looks harmonious and we were not left with any unwanted or needlessly small cuts. Once the tiles adhered to the plasterboard, the window reveals were then be tiled. The surface tiles need to finish ‘down’ onto the floor tiles for a pleasing, watertight finish.  The ground is then prepared for Tiling and was then tiled. After the floor has been over-boarded, and the floor tiles were laid (and the bond has set), the outstanding wall tiles can be applied. When all Tiling has been achieved, and the adhesive has adequately cured the tiles were then grouted. After grouting and tile polishing, all required corners were then sealed with silicon.

2nd Fix Electrics

This phase involves fitting the items that were to be introduced in the new bathroom in Bolton installation:

  • The ceiling lights and associated pull cord
  • The shaver socket

Joinery

In this particular bathroom in Bolton installation, the door was then rehung on the opposite side of the frame to present the homeowner more space upon accessing the bathroom. The vanity unit was then also constructed and fixed to the wall, ready for our plumber.

2nd Fix Plumbing

This phase involved the plumbing/fitting in the following items:

  • The thermostatic shower onto the hot & cold supplies protruding from the wall
  • The toilet tank and back to wall pan & soft close seat
  • The bathtub screen
  • The sink and basin mixer tap
